Rvssian flicks the ‘Switch’ - Champion producer encourages investment in new talent
Billboard-charting producer Rvssian has linked back up with one of dancehall’s hottest commodities Skeng for the creation of a potential banger, Switch, which was officially released last Friday.
The master producer returned to his trademark ad-libbing on the track and seamlessly complements Skeng’s flow. The Head Concussion Records label owner told THE STAR that fans have been clamouring to hear his voice on tracks.
“Honestly, a lot of my fans have been in my DMs [on social media] for years saying, ‘Rvssian, I miss you singing on songs’ and one random day I was in studio and wrote the idea for Switch, loved it and thought it was a hit. So I presented it to Skeng, who heard it and instantly said, ‘Now! Let’s do it’,” he said.
Rvssian has lent his voice to many hit dancehall songs, especially those produced for Vybz Kartel. These include Straight Jeans and Fitted, Look Pon Me, Get Gal Anywhere and New Jordans.
Meanwhile, Switch is the latest project to feature in the Rvssian-Skeng link-up. Last year he appeared on his 23 single, and was responsible for two tracks on the trending deejay’s Beast of the Era album, namely Thug Life and It’s True, which features Shenseea.
In fact, the producer appears invested in the Protocol artiste. At Skeng’s Beast of the Era launch last month, Rvssian presented him a pricey Rolex watch, marking the moment. However, Rvssian did not explain if there were any meanings for the extravagant gift. He only said that there is a need for producers to invest time and energy into new talent in securing dancehall’s future and that he has made that one of his priorities.
“I feel it is necessary for an experienced producer as myself. I encourage others to work with new talent because dancehall needs it. It needs the combination of experience with the new styles and flows. I think it creates a balance and is the only way for the genre to thrive to its true potential,” Rvssian declared.
