A relative of one of three men cut down by police in a reported confrontation on the Mandela Highway yesterday, said they are not surprised at his demise.

"Yuh see when people nuh hear? A this happen when people talk and talk but him nuh hear," said the relative who was on the scene. Police reported that officers from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch were acting on intelligence about a black Honda Fit motor car that was tied to several robberies. Around 11:45 a.m., the officers signalled the driver of the vehicle to stop. The men allegedly disobeyed, and as cops tried to intercept the vehicle, the men opened gunfire. The cops returned fire, and three men, including man, who is believed to be 20, were found wounded. They were later pronounced dead at the Spanish Town Hospital. According to the police's Constabulary Communications Network, a Taurus G2C 9mm pistol and a Beretta 9mm pistol, both loaded, were recovered. The Independent Commission of Investigations has begun its probe. Up to press time, police had not named the men.

According to the family member, the man's upbringing was tough, but guidance was available.

"Him mother did lef him fi a while from him likkle and him father grow tough, so him raise him pickeny dem the same but him neva hear. You see guidance? It up to you if you want tek it," the relative said, explaining that his father tried to guide him.

"A reality, he was not a good bwoy. You think seh mi ago come out and bawl seh him did good?" the person said. "At least dem will stop come look fi him now."

Another person who claimed to know one of other deceased, agreed that the occupants of the car were bad men.

"A transaction a go dung and the police trail dem. True dem have di gun dem nuh stop but police nah just shoot off a people so," the individual reasoned.
