St Mary farmer chops man in land dispute
What started as a dispute over cows grazing on disputed land in St Mary exploded into bloodshed on Tuesday, when a machete-wielding farmer allegedly chopped a man multiple times in Annotto Bay.
The accused, 52-year-old Cleveland "Prick" Hird of Gibraltar Heights, was charged on Saturday with wounding with intent.
Police reports indicate that around 5:30 p.m. on September 16, Hird accused the other man of roping cattle on farmland managed by him. The quarrel quickly turned violent, with the man allegedly striking Hird with a piece of steel.
In retaliation, Hird reportedly attacked the man with the machete repeatedly.
The wounded man was rushed to hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
Hird was arrested shortly after the incident and charged following a question-and-answer session with investigators on September 21. His court date is being finalised.
